When I stepped into my first Reformer Pilates class at Core Reformer in Gravesend, I’ll admit—I was anxious. The equipment looked intricate and a bit intimidating, I didn’t have the faintest idea what to do, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I’m so glad I took the plunge because what followed was an incredibly rewarding experience.
First, let me tell you about the studio itself. Core Reformer is beautifully styled, with a sleek and modern design that instantly made me feel like I’d stepped into a high-quality, professional environment. The studio has eight quality Reformer beds, offering plenty of space for a great group class experience. It’s clear that a lot of care has gone into every detail of the space. The changing area and bathrooms were spotless and well-maintained, adding to the overall sense of comfort and luxury. It’s the kind of place that inspires confidence and makes you want to come back.
The instructor, Isa, played a huge role in making my first class such a success. She was incredibly helpful and reassuring, guiding us step-by-step through each movement. What initially seemed like a maze of pulleys and springs quickly became manageable. While there were moments when I struggled to keep up, Isa was always there to offer encouragement and adjust the exercises to suit my ability. The session pushed me, but never to the point of feeling overwhelmed. I took a few breaks to catch my breath, but the effort felt empowering rather than exhausting.
By the end of the class, I was surprised by how accomplished I felt. It wasn’t just a physical victory—though my muscles certainly felt the work—it was also a mental win. The combination of Isa’s guidance, focused movements, and rhythmic breathing left me with a sense of clarity and calm I hadn’t anticipated.
What really surprised me was how quickly I started to get the hang of it. At first, some of the exercises seemed nearly impossible. But as I followed Isa’s guidance and practiced each movement, my confidence grew steadily. I even found myself starting to enjoy the challenge of mastering new techniques.
Looking back, I’m so grateful I gave Reformer Pilates a try at Core Reformer. It’s more than just a workout—it’s an experience that strengthens both body and mind. For me, it’s the perfect combination of strength, flexibility, and mindfulness, and I’m excited to continue this journey. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking for a fresh challenge, I can’t recommend giving a class at Core Reformer a go enough. You might just surprise yourself, too!
